There has never been more need for St John to be ready to respond to major emergencies. When a major earthquake struck Kaikoura last November houses were flattened, trapping men, women and children. People suffered broken bones, head trauma and serious crush injuries.
It also knocked out power and phone lines for miles around. No one could call for help, which meant people were isolated.
Thus, St John’s response would be absolutely critical. They have to have everything they need such as skills, specialist equipment and training to carry on saving lives.
